Hamilton Beach 74250 Carve 'n Set Electric Knife with Case, White

I bought this electric knife to replace a 25-year old Sunbeam model which needed to be replaced. I use it weekly to slice homemade bread, and much less often for meat and other uses.

In so many ways, this product deserved to be tossed into the trash, but fortunately I still had the receipt so was able to return it. I hated to do it, because I feel sorry for the person who buys it next.

The handle is large and bulky. I do not have small hands, and I play the piano so I am accustomed to stretching my fingers. The handle is also too smooth and my hand slipped as my fingers attempted to use the trigger. The trigger is on the bottom of the handle. This is fine because my old one was too, but it has some sort of crazy safety feature where you not only have to stretch to hold down the trigger but you also have to slide it back as well. Extremely awkward and, after slicing 3 loaves of bread, my hand was numb.

Shame on HB for designing this. I returned it and bought a Cusiniart which I have hopes for because the handle is a nice shape, a textured finish, and and easy-to-operate trigger.

When I searched the site for an electric knife, I specified "cordless" and this one came up. But it's not cordless, so when you're working with it you have to wrestle with the cord. Otherwise it works fine. An electric knife is the only way to slice a turkey.

This electric knife works so poorly I cannot believe that it is being sold. Anyone who gives it a good rating must not know how an electric knife works or, I got a defective one.

It was an EFFORT to slice through a turkey breast. I finally got out a regular carving knife. This electric knife is a piece of junk.

I bought this to replace an old, cheap proctor-silex one I had purchased at Kmart 15 years ago (worked great until the thing that holds the blades together broke off).

Thought this one would be an "upgrade." Was I ever WRONG. I am so angry that I did not save the packaging, receipt so I could return it. I am going to write to the company and ask them why they sell such trash.

GO BUY A CHEAP, PROCTOR-SILEX.

I used this last night for the first time for carving my T-giving turkey. It STINKS. The handle, when slick with grease from the turkey, is nearly impossible to hold. Your hand slips forward and it is nearly impossible to push the button. I had to use two hands to hold it, which is less than desirable. Plus, it barely had enough power to cut through some real small ligaments. Overall, not worth your time. Why they make it with a slippery plastic with nothing to provide a sure non-slip gripping surface is beyond me.

Hamilton Beach has always been an excellent product. This one is no exception. It even came with a carving fork which I didn't expect. You can't go wrong with this product.
