With the Lids Off jar opener, Black & Decker has simplified the opening of jars to a no-strain, one-hand operation. Electrically powered, the Lids Off cradles a jar on its lower turntable then grips its lid when you lower the upper housing. Push the large power button, and—voila!—the lid is twisted free. Designed for use on metal or plastic lids, the opener makes a handy tool for anyone and can be especially helpful for those with weak hands or arthritis. The unit accommodates a wide range of jars, from baby food to spaghetti sauce, anything up to 4-1/2 inches in diameter and 8 inches high. It is not intended, however, for the very narrow necks of beer bottles or tall jars of juice. Measuring 8-1/2 by 7-3/4 by 10 inches, the Lids Off is collapsible for space-efficiency and comes with built-in power cord storage. --Emily Bedard

| Comment: | I bought this item for myself, my mom and my grandparents. We all use our jar openers anytime we have a tough lid. It is easy to use - put the jar in, press the button - its open. It works great for older people - my grandparents have a very tough time opening jars of anything and this eased it by 100% - so I think its perfect for older people or people with sensitive hands - but I also recommend it for people who hate opening tough lids!!! :) |

| Comment: | Ok, it is a bit large. But it is so superior to that small "seen-on-TV" hand-held motorized version at Carol Wright that costs about $20. Carol Wright's had plastic gears and mine broke when I used it on a jar with too big a lid. So I went hunting and found this Black and Decker version for a little over $20 used. It has metal gear parts instead of the Carol Wright plastic gears to squeeze the lid. Don't have to worry about batteries. Nothing could be easier or more reliable. Highly recommended for anyone with arthritis. |

| Comment: | My grandmother is 77 years old & has to get my granfather to open jars for her all the time. She recieved this as a gift last week & loves it. We didn't even read the directions, just plugged it in & started using it & it worked great! Very simple to understand, & easy to use, it works on a wide range of jar sizes. It closes down so it fits on the counter nicely. I read some reviews saying it took up too much counter space but I don't agree. It's not that big & much easier to use than an under the counter mounted version. I'm purchasing another one for my other grandmother who lives alone. This is a great gift idea for anyone who is elderly or frail. |

| Comment: | We bought the jar opener for my mother-in-law several years ago. It recently broke and she was practically in a state of panic. She's 92 years old and this jar opened "is a real life saver". I highly recommend it -- it works! |
