I'm sixty four and I've never owned a processor before, now I don't know how I got along without one. I use it almost every day for one thing or another and just love it! It's not only very easy to use, it's also easy to clean! It is my right hand in the kitchen! Thank you Kitchen Aid!!!!

Let me begin by saying that I've used a Cuisinart food processor for 20 years, with great results. The reason why I switched was that I feel the Cuisinart bowls are made of a cheap plastic and I was tired of paying for replacements.

I ordered the KitchenAid food processor with high hopes. I cook a lot, and throw approximately two large parties a month, so I need a food processor that can do the job at hand. I've owned a KitchenAid Mixer for 20 years and love it. This food processor was highly recommended by Cooks Illustrated, a very good friend (and cook), and received good reviews here on Amazon.

The KitchenAid does have strongs points: the plastic bowls are a nice, heavy-duty plastic, the machine is heavy and doesn't move around on the counter, and the machine is fairly quiet. I've had the machine for approximately two weeks and have used all three bowls (too bad the middle bowl can only be used with the attachements and not the usual work blade), and the shredder attachment.

Upon initial use I noticed a few things I didn't like. The pulse seemed to be longer than a true pulse. My old Cuisinart stopped immediately when I let up on the pulse button. The Kitchen Aid seems to linger a bit, and didn't do the job. I also noticied that ingredients escaped through the top of the machine, where the lid attaches - both flour and liquids. Ingredients also escape through the bottom, adding to final clean-up time.

When chopping cranberries last week, it seemed to take many pulses to accomplish the job. I didn't worry too much, as it did get the job done.

Today was the defining moment. I made a flour mixture and had to add in whole toasted almonds. The recipe calls for 6-8 pulses to chop the almonds into large bits. I've used this recipe for 15 years, without incident. The almonds did not chop. I pulsed. I turned it "on". I stopped and re-read the manual to make sure I was doing everything correctly. I stirred the mixture with a spoon. I pulsed again. And again. After much time, I finally dumped the entire contents into another bowl and picked out the almonds one by one, put them back into the small bowl and chopped them up. Even then, the chopping was inferior and it took many pulses to get the job done. I could have chopped the entire batch of almonds by hand faster than it took for me to endure this trauma.

I'm sending the KitchenAid food processor back for a full refund. The performance is dismal and I need to rectify this purchase mistake, despite the fortune I'll pay in return postage.

I should have stayed with Cuisinart.

We debated between this product and Cuisinart's similarly rated food processor (rated similarly by Cooks Illustrated). Frankly, each has received some negative reviews here, so we felt that whichever one we chose, we would be settling for some potential problems. We chose KitchenAid for one reason, (see below) still concerned that the negative comments on this product would present problems. To settle this concern we tested the processor right out of the box to see if we could duplicate the problems other reviewers have had, specifically trying to see if the machine would jam. We couldn't get it to jam. Yes, the seal on the cover is not as tight as it might be and there is some spillage of crumbs. Yes, hand-washing the parts must be a bear, but we have a dishwasher. Ultimately we chose KitchenAid because we found the customer service so bad at Cuisinart in the past that our generally non-violent natures would have been tested had we been face-to-face with the Cuisinart customer service person and not speaking on the phone. (Strangling a customer rep gets people so upset.) So far, so good, but to us, service after the sale is everything. Meanwhile, contact us if you want to purchase a used Cuisinart processor with expensive "replacement parts" that don't fit, jammed, and broke.

The only negative comment I can make is that, when you use the small bowls, the food gets on the rim of the large bowl so you might just as well not use the small bowls; you'll have to wash the big one anyway. I really like the plastic box that holds all the periferals. You never have to search for anything; it's right there in the box.
