Very nice peice if you want uniform hard veggie slices. I tested and saw 4 adjustable sizes, none of them are paper thin. The "wavy" slicer is cool if you want to make crudetts, or fry up "wavy lays pototo chips". I wanted the gaufrette option and the blades for this do not stand up to my expectations. For thin onion and potato slices fast in bulk this would be good, but if you already have a "slicer at work" forget about it. My knife skills are faster then using this except on potatoes, and onions. The construction of the "finger gaurd" is collapsable and make slicing harder. I give this 2.5 stars if you use w/out the gaurd and know when to slow down. A 4 if you just need to thin slice 1/8 inch scalloped potatoes or onions.

Put what you'd spend on this thing towards a good knife or two. We had high hopes for it, but after slicing two cucumbers, the blade was noticeably dulled, requiring more effort to slice. This is extremely dangerous as most accidents in the kitchen are from people pushing dull blades through food and the blade slips and sinks into a finger. We went back to slicing cukes with a knife, which was faster. Giving it two stars only because it's decently sturdy. It's a shame that the blades won't last.

Only for soft veggies! This works great with Zucchini, onions, mushrooms. Anything tougher and it jams, sticks or breaks the food. I have tried it with carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, Asiago cheese crumbles, Mozzarella (I know it is soft) simple clogs the blades. I know it is because the blades are dull, but they were dull from day one.
The shame of it all is we purchased this exclusively to make Sweet Potato fries & chips. Useless. It is back to the knife method. I do believe the housing is well designed, but the blades are miserable. It would be nice if Amazon would market replacement blades from a blade maker, then I might be able to get some use out of it. Till then, I will leave it hanging on the wall. My wife suggested hanging it on the wall so at least we can get some use out of it. I have to agree, it makes nice kitchen art.

The price was the hook, my husband makes fries 2-3 times a week. I love this item. It performs well and looks great. It is VERY sharp so this is not for the rookie cook. We even made sweet potato fries for Thanksgiving!

This item has worked out great for me. I use it daily to slice potatoes and find that it works great. I have also used it on several occasions to slice onions. I would recommend this slicer to anyone that wanted a quality product that would slice potatoes, onions, etc.
